Sunday Snapshots: The Colorful, Flowery Street of Cartagena

Sorry for the hiatus – my hard drive with all my photos got damaged and I have been without everything for a couple weeks.

In 2016, I went to Colombia with my awesome day job for work. Over 25 of us at the time, taking the streets of Cartagena, Santa Marta, and the Rosario Islands – yikes! It actually was one of the best trips I have ever been on and I learned so much about Colombia. To be honest, Colombia had never really been on my radar. I didn’t really know much about except for it’s illustrious history filled with Pablo Escobar, danger, and cocaine.

After this trip, I fell in love with Colombia. It is such a vibrant and beautiful country with some of the nicest people. it really is a hidden gem of South America, and because of its history it is often overlooked and stated “as too dangerous to visit.” However, things have really changed the and the locals are trying to get past that history. As a result tourism is on the rise, as it should be. Seriously, Colombia is a beautiful country and everyone should give it a chance. Cartagena is an old colonial port city founded in 1533. It is broken into two, I guess you could say, with newer Cartagena (Bocagrande) with built up buildings and hotels and old Cartagena inside the wall.

My favorite part was obviously was inside the fortress wall (surprise, surprise) with the colorful building, amazing doors, and flowery streets. How could you not fall in love with this vibrant city?! Everywhere you look there is something to see. I had so many choices for this Sunday Snapshot, but I chose one of my favorites: the yellow, colorful, flowery street of Cartagena. Even nearing the end of the day, there is still beauty to be found in this street. With the bright yellows, the flowers, and the colonial charm.

This is why I am taking you to Cartagena for this Sunday Snapshots.
