I am taking you back to Europe with this #PostcardToNowhere, but this time to Central Europe. In March of 2017, I got to go to Europe with my awesome day time job. We did a tour of central Europe, hitting up Budapest, Hungary, Vienna, Austria, and Bratislava, Slovakia. Many people have never even heard of Bratislava….some have never heard of Slovakia! Slovakia and the Czech Republic used to make up Czechoslovakia until 1993 – so not long ago at all. It has an old-world charm infused with Soviet Union-era buildings and decor and is often overlooked when people go to Europe. Could you point out Slovakia on a map right now? It might take you a few to pinpoint.
While Bratislava is extremely small compared to the likes of Budapest and Vienna, it is still an adorable city with things to do. We started off doing a walking tour of the city, learning more about the split of Czechoslovakia, politics, and things that have happened during the city. Despite having been in Bratislava for a couple hours a few years back, I literally knew nothing about it until this trip. It does have a fascinating history and culture that is often overlooked. We then ended up going to a nearby forest for a traditional Slovak dinner…we may have though our tour guide was going to murder us, but that story is for another time!
While you may not need more than a couple days in Bratislava, it definitely shouldn’t be missed if interested in seeing an area of Europe most people skip over. You can certainly get your self into some trouble and have fun, because what happens in Bratislava, stays in Bratislava. 🙂
