Taking you back to where it all started – ASIA! My first ever Postcards to Nowhere started in the islands of Indonesia, and now I am island hopping to the Philippines! I was lucky enough to visit the beautiful country of the Philippines three times, and believe it really is more fun in the Philippines!
Each time I got to go with great friends, but it was my trip to Boracay, the party island of the Philippines, that was that much more special because I had friends from the US coming ti visit – my old college roomies/besties/sorority sisters Brittany and Tiffany! I somehow convinced them to come visit me in Hong Kong and to sweeten the deal, I threw in visiting the stunning islands of the Philippines – how could they pass?!
We stayed at the Mandarin Island hotel, located on Station 2 of Boracay and it was just a nothing but sun, relaxation, and a lot of tropical drinks with rum. We went swimming, snorkeling, on a catamaran, we danced on the beach, and stayed up way too late talking. For me it was a trip I will always cherish because in order to live my life teaching English abroad and traveling, it means I had to leave my friends and family. I missed a lot of things – birthdays, deaths, weddings, births of children, and that is something that weighs heavily on me. It was nice to share a piece of life with my friends and for them to come to me!
While Boracay may not have been my favorite part of the Philippines (hey Palawan) it definitely was a fantastic trip! I found this postcard in a bag I recently got at my childhood home and the memories came flooding back. This is why I collect postcards and am doing these Postcards to Nowhere – to remember where I was and what I was doing when visiting these special places.
